Sheriff Williams was born and raised in Gary,Indiana. He relocated to Athens in 1997. After over 20 years serving the Clarke County community as a dispatcher, officer, detective, and youth mentor, he began his term as Sheriff of Clarke County on January 1, 2021. Sheriff Williams believes in partnering withthe community to solve issues of crime and quality of life concerns. He has instructed classes on various law enforcement topics throughout the state of Georgia, and welcomes community members to take part in the same training alongside officers and deputies. He plans to expand outreach services to include mental health services, youth development and mentoring, and job skill training for incarcerated individuals.
